12. Celestial Boho Macrame Star Ornament
Introduction
These geometric star ornaments bring a celestial touch to bedroom walls, holiday trees, or decorative garlands. They combine rigid wire or wooden star frames with simple macrame wrapping.
What This Idea Means
This project introduces knotting onto a shaped, non-linear geometric frame. Children learn how to follow angles and corners while keeping their cord wrapping secure and even.
What You Need
- 1 metal or sturdy wire five-point star frame (12cm to 15cm wide)
- 1 ball of 3mm single-strand cotton cord (in mustard yellow, soft cream, or gold)
- Craft glue
- Scissors
How to Make It
- Tie your cord to the inner dip of one star point using a tight double knot, leaving a 5cm tail on the back.
- Wrap the cord tightly around the star frame wire, working your way up toward the first outer tip.
- When you reach the sharp point, tie a Half-Hitch knot tightly around the apex to lock the cord from slipping back down the angle.
- Continue wrapping down the other side of the point toward the next inner dip.
- Repeat this wrapping and locking technique around all 5 points of the star frame.
- Once the entire perimeter is covered, tie off the cord on the back with a double knot.
- Secure both the starting and ending knots with a small drop of clear craft glue and trim the tails flush.
- Tie a 10cm piece of cord to the top star point to create a hanging loop.
Tips and Variations
- Tip: Keep the wire frame from showing through by pushing your wraps together every few turns.
- Variation: Wrap fine battery-powered micro fairy wire along with the cord to make an illuminating night ornament.
