9. Gargoyle Sentinel Pedestals

9

Flank your entryway, fireplace, or staircase with towering stone-look pedestals topped with menacing, weathered gargoyles. These mythical stone guardians have long been associated with gothic architecture and the protection of dark domains. You can create the pedestals using lightweight styrofoam blocks carved to look like ancient, cracked masonry, painted with textured gray stone paint and aged with dark washes of black and green acrylics to simulate moss and soot. Atop each pedestal, place a highly detailed gargoyle statue with folded wings, sharp talons, and a brooding expression. For a truly theatrical effect, install small, battery-operated red LED lights inside the gargoyles’ eyes, making them glow menacingly in the dark, signaling to all visitors that they are entering a realm ruled by the undead.
