19. Gothic Archway Entrance
Welcome your guests into your home through a grand, imposing gothic archway that feels like the entrance to a medieval castle. You can construct a temporary archway using lightweight styrofoam or cardboard panels, cutting out the classic pointed “ogival” arch shape characteristic of gothic architecture. Paint the arch to look like weathered, mossy gray stone, complete with carved relief details and faux cracks. Position this archway over your front door or the entrance to your main party room. Hang heavy, dark drapes or a curtain of hanging chains within the archway, forcing guests to physically push through them to enter, immediately immersing them in the dark, atmospheric world you have created.
