15. Haunted Portrait Gallery wall
Turn an ordinary hallway or staircase into a creepy gallery of ancestral spirits. Gather a collection of ornate, mismatched vintage picture frames from thrift stores and paint them all matte black. Print out classic “lenticular” shifting portraits—images that change from a beautiful person to a horrific monster or skeleton depending on the angle from which you view them.
Hang these frames close together to create a dense gallery wall. As guests walk down the hallway, the portraits will seem to transform before their eyes, creating an unsettling, interactive experience. Add some faux cobwebs stretching across the frames and a dim, flickering overhead light to make the space feel long-forgotten and haunted.
